ABOUT THIS CATEGORY
TOTOMED's urological range addresses the clinical and comfort needs of patients requiring short-term and long-term urinary catheterisation. Our Foley catheters — available in 100% silicone and natural rubber latex — cover 2-way and 3-way configurations across a full size range. Paired with our anti-reflux drainage bags, urine meter bags, and leg bags, our urology range provides a complete system for catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) prevention.
CLINICAL CONTEXT
Why this matters at the bedside.
Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are among the most common healthcare-associated infections globally, affecting an estimated 30–40% of long-term catheterised patients. Device factors play a direct role: catheter material, lumen integrity, drainage bag design, and connection security all influence infection risk. TOTOMED's silicone Foley catheters are manufactured using a dip-moulding process that produces a smooth, non-porous surface — reducing bacterial adhesion compared to conventional latex catheters. Our anti-reflux drainage bags incorporate a non-return valve rated to prevent retrograde flow at filling rates up to 150 mL/min.
CLINICAL USE CASES
Where our products make the difference.
Long-term catheterisation
Silicone Foley catheters for patients requiring catheterisation >30 days (e.g. neurological, palliative).
Post-operative urology
3-way Foley with large irrigation lumen for TURP and bladder procedures.
ICU fluid monitoring
Urine meter bags with hourly gradations for accurate fluid balance in critical care.
Paediatric urology
Small-bore Fr 8 and Fr 10 Foley catheters with 5 mL balloons for paediatric use.
WHY IT MATTERS
Reducing CAUTI rates by even a small percentage has significant cost and quality-of-life implications. Studies consistently show that device quality, alongside insertion technique and maintenance protocols, is the strongest predictor of CAUTI incidence. TOTOMED invests in catheter surface quality, balloon integrity testing, and drainage bag engineering to give infection control teams a product foundation that supports their protocols.
